Portage Mutual Insurance in Portage la Prairie is making a contribution to benefit Portage Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) starting with the support of one employee who is making a personal sacrifice for the effort.
Sean McKinley, who is a business analyst supervisor with Portage Mutual Insurance, will be shedding his long locks for a fundraiser to benefit PAWS, and expects to raise more than $500 from the commitment.
"They (staff) managed to come up with over $500 -- almost $600 to do that," he said. "That's the generosity from these people."
Staff members are donating to PAWS to see McKinley cut off his long hair, which he has been growing for about five years now.
He plans to have his hair cut on June 22 at 2:30 p.m.
The person who comes up with the most money to donate will have the privilege of holding the scissors for the fundraiser to cut McKinley's hair.
Funds raised will benefit PAWS and the hair that is shorn will go to benefit the Cancer Society.
