Strong local contingent at Manitoba Marathon 0

Tania Lemieux and Amber Driedger were the only local marathon entrants. The Elie runner finished in a time of 4:07:57.3, good for 306th overall and seventh out of 36 in the female 40-44 division. Driedger was 442nd overall with a time of 4:34:10.7, placing her eighth out of 20 in the female 50-54 division.

In the half-marathon, Cory Smith led the local contingent with a 47th place finish overall with a time of 1:27:464. In the male 20-24 division, Smith was seventh out of 173.

MacGregor's Noah Wieler ran a fine race with a time of 1:35:06.3, good for 130th overall and 16th out of 148 in the male 15-19 category.

Next was Gordon Sokolosky with a time of 1:41:20, good for 297th overall and 44th out of 234 in the male 25-29 division.

After Sokolosky was Ferdi Van Dongen (male 50-54) finishing in 1:44:37.7, good for 428th overall and 24 out of 194 in his category.

Whitney Munro (female 25-29) was 516th overall after finishing in 1:46:41.4, 20th out of 374 in her category.

Jonathan Britton was 566th overall and 52nd out of 191 in the male 40-44 category with a time 1:47:47.0, while Lisa Penner was 988th overall and 29th out of 179 in the female 40-44 division with a time of 1:55:21.1.

Elie's Brent Dyck was 684th overall with a time of 1:50:15.7, placing him 79th out of 224 in the male 30-34 division.

Other local half-marathon runners were Shawn Wickens (2:01:51.9), Sandi Kinley (2:01:52.0), Jeff Bereza (2:04:51.9), Debbie Buydens (2:07:39.3), Chantelle Moffit (2:07:59.9), Karissa Wieler (2:08:37.0), Tiffany Verwey (2:10:41.6), Jennifer Meloney (2:11:22.1), Todd McRae (2:12:38.0), Jerrad Cann (2:14:46.5), Richard Schroeder (2:21:17.6), Terese Schroeder (2:22:33.0), Tanya Park (2:30:33.5), Derek Casper (2:31:27.8), Adrienne Ashcroft (2:38:37.4), Lynne Bereza (2:40:05.3) and Heather Yeo (3:24:59.0). All are from Portage, except for Kinley, Buydens and Meloney from Gladstone, Wieler and Ashcroft from Gladstone, Park from Elie, and Moffit from Oakville.

In the 10 km run, Oakville's Bert de Vries (55:38.8) placed 50th overall and third out of 24 in the male 30-34 division. Jackie de Vries, meanwhile, was 142nd overall at 59:47.9, good for ninth out of 69 in the female 30-34 category. MacGregor's Shailyn Boschman (1:00:01.8) was shortly behind at 150th overall and 11th out of 197 in the female under-14 division.

Rhonda Palmer was the highest-finishing Portager at 392nd overall (1:13:08.1), followed by Donald Voth (1:22:51.5, 583rd overall), Janice Voth (1:22:41.6, 584th overall), Jacqueline Alston-MacLellan (1:34:59.0, 773rd overall), Marjorie Muirhead (1:44:08.6, 897th overall), Natalie Pouteau (1:48:45.7, 979th overall) and Mark Pouteau (1:48:46.9, 980th overall).

In the marathon relay, the MacGregor Road Runner #1 team finished 16th overall with a time of 3:17:20.5, good for second of nine in thee mixed high school division. MacGregor Road Runner #2 was 427th overall (4:19:05.9), while #3 was 635th overall (4:47:57.). As for Portage teams, Portage Clinic 1 was 213th overall (2:59:27.4) and MASCerading As Serious Competitors was 592nd overall (4:40:17.0). Sole Sisters For Life of Elie was 423rd overall (4:18:52.9) while Are We There Yet? from Oakville was 501st overall (4:26:37.6).

Meanwhile, 36 runners from Portage, 14 from Elie, four from MacGregor and two from Oakville competed in the 2.6 mile Super Run. Top-100 finishes were Portage's Brandon Rouire and 65th overall (18:59.3) and Elie's Jesse Trumbla (19:09.0).
