Portage United continued their recent dominance with a convincing 3-1 defeat of the St. James Spurs. With Saturday's win, United have now won three straight matches, and sit atop of the Fourth Division in the Manitoba Major Soccer League.
It didn't take long for United to get on the board as they converted a beautiful passing play 10 minutes in to take the early 1-0 lead.
"When you get an early goal it allows you to settle down and do the things you're good at," said Coach Ian Benson. "And it helps us create balance as a unit."
The pace of play began to slow down after the opening goal, and defence became a priority. Things started to get physical as both teams fought to get the all-important next goal.
