Highways of Heroes dedicated

By Robin Dudgeon, Portage Daily Graphic

Last week the Province of Manitoba unveiled the Highway of Heroes - the new name of the stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway between Winnipeg and Brandon.

Ceremonies were held both on the Winnipeg and Brandon end with veterans and military personnel in attendance.

Highway markers located just west of Winnipeg and east of Brandon feature the iconic red poppy at the top and the Highway of Heroes name in both official languages with reflective white lettering on a blue background.

Portage la Prairie Royal Canadian Legion member Dennis Dupont said he was very pleased with the designation.

"I do feel very proud to see that on the side of the road," said Dupont.
