City of Portage attends national conference

Brandon Logan

Mayor Earl Porter and councilor Brent Froese attended last weekend's Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) conference in Saskatoon.

The FCM conference is an annual event that allows municipalities from across Canada to have their issues heard at a Federal level.

"This conference is a great way to share similar issues with other municipal governments around the country," said councilor, Irvine Ferris. "It also gives us a chance to talk with senior members of the Federal Government."

Critical issues that plague municipalities such as infrastructure and the economy are commonly discussed at the conference.

"A typical issue brought up is infrastructure. This includes our roads, highways and sewer pipes," said Ferris.
