Infrastructure and Transportation Minister Steve Ashton held a press conference, Thursday, in order to update the public on the Province's flood recovery efforts. Ashton announced the Province has already given out $700 million in compensation and assistance and there will likely be more to come.

Ashton figured that the flood has already cost the Province $880 million: $180 million to fight the flood and another $700 million paid out in compensation. Currently 65 per cent of applicants have received at least some compensation.

He also added that compensation will continue to be paid out to those that need it.

"When I say that compensation has been paid out we do not see that as being the final number. I think there's every indication that this flood is going to cost us as a province $1 billion before it's over," said Ashton.
