Grade six students at Yellowquill School got the satisfaction of doing something good for the community, Thursday, when they donated $250 each to Central Plains Cancer Care and the Portage Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).

Charmaine Rodgers, a grade six teacher at Yellowquill School, said the Community Foundation of Portage and District (CFPD) Kids in Philanthropy program seemed like a great idea because it fit in well with the respect program run by Yellowquill School as well as with her social studies curriculum.

With help from Rodgers the students researched different charities in the Portage area and then had to decide as a class which charity of charities they would give the $500 provided by CFPD to.

Andria Bertram and Connor Green were able to present the cheques during a respect assembly Thursday. Both found the program to be very rewarding.
