Crops getting a good soak over past week 0
Areas in the Central Plains have been getting its fair share of rain this week in Manitoba.
According to a Manitoba Crop Weather Report submitted by Manitoba Agriculture Rural Food and Initiatives, the Portage area has seen 23.9 mm of rain while Portage East has seen 26.7 mm of rain in the past week.
The downpour was significant here but in other places, such as Gladstone (31.8), the millimeters extend to 30 or higher.
One of the highest amounts of rain was felt in Elm Creek, which totalled 41.6 mm of rain this week.
Pam Derocquigny, provincial cereal crop specialist at MAFRI, said that the rain is welcome because of a drier spring season.
"That's about an inch of rain (for Portage). In a lot areas, producers and farmers were looking for this kind of precipitation so it's a nice amount. It may vary on a field by field basis in terms of soil type and whether or not there's any ponding (though)."
