Annual Show and Shine coming up
Car buffs will want to mark June 10 on their calendars, the date of the upcoming 'Cruisin' the Island' Vintage Cruisers Annual Show and Shine in Portage la Prairie.
The event will feature a variety of classic and vintage vehicles at the show at Island Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Rusty Rutherford, a committee member, said he is hoping for a good turnout at the show.
There are up to 30 members in the local area Vintage Cruisers group.
In the past, up to 300 vehicles have been on display at the Show and Shine event in Portage, so Rutherford is hoping to see a just as many vehicles there this year as well.
"There will be everything from the 1920s right up to the 1980s," said Rutherford of the vehicles that will be on display. "Also, the Bondslave Motorcycle Club will be in attendance and will bring quite a few motorcycles as well."
The bike club is a church-based group of riders.
While the Show and Shine is free to attend, there will also be some fundraising activities to raise money for charity organizations.
A canteen will be set up for refreshments and snacks. As well, a Rainbow silent auction will be held, with local businesses donating a number of items for the auction.
"Anything we do for our show goes to charity," said Rutherford. "Central Plains Cancer Care (Services) looks after our luncheon, making all the profits from that. And we have the 'Tin For a Bin,' the Salvation Army parks its van there and we fill it up. And, we usually get a couple of hundred dollars in cash donations as well."
