Habitat For Humanity Portage Chapter saw the start of its 2012 build this week as workers broke ground to create the foundation of the next Habitat home.
The Habitat house is being built at 4th Ave. E. and 6 St. N.E. in Portage.
Doug Halmarson, who is the communications committee chairman, said since the build started everything has been running smoothly.
"I am amazed at how quickly it has gone up," he said Thursday. "We started Tuesday morning with straight grass and this is what we have already today. Things are going very well."
The project has enough volunteers for its community build blitz days on June 9 and 16, but still needs more volunteers for its work throughout the rest of the time during the build to help out.
People can volunteer by visiting the website: habitatportage.ca.
Currently the basement of the house is being completed. The new house is to be 960 square feet in size and should be completed for Aug. 15.
Project chairman Larry Muirhead said the 2012 Habitat project is on schedule.
