ArtsSmarts program celebrated with exhibit, donations 0

By Robin Dudgeon...Portage and District Arts Centre (PDAC) executive director Jean Armstrong accepts a cheque for $2,500 from Community Foundation of Portage and District (CFPD) vice president Lou Antonissen to go towards the ArtsSmarts program, Thursday, during the opening of the ArtsSmarts gallery exhibit which will be on display at PDAC until June 16.
The ArtsSmarts program received a donation of $2,500 from the Community Foundation of Portage and District (CFPD) during the ArtsSmarts exhibition opening reception at the Portage and District Arts Centre (PDAC), Thursday.
PDAC executive director Jean Armstrong accepted a cheque for $2,500 from CFPD vice president Lou Antonissen for the Arts Smarts program; Sharon Rennie gave Armstrong a cheque for $386 from the John Rennie Memorial Fund to also benefit the program.
Some of the highlights of the exhibit, sponsored by RONA, Meyers Norris Penny and Brenda and Jim Moorhouse of Jaymore Farms, included glasswork done by students at Oakville School, stepping stones done by students at Yellowquill School, and leatherworking done by students at Norquay Colony School. There were also videos displaying dance programs offered at both Ecole Crescentview School and at Fort La Reine School.
The exhibit will run from May 15 to June 16.
