By Robin Dudgeon...Power went out in the southwest corner of Portage la Prairie, Monday, after a large tree fell over some wires on Crescent Rd. W. RCMP and fire crews were on scene blocking off Crescent Rd. at 20th St. SW during the power outage.
Gale force winds are likely to blame for a power outage in the city's southwest corner Monday evening.
Power went out at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Monday night after a large tree fell over some power lines on Crescent Rd. W at 20th St. SW. The large tree not only caused some power lines to fall across Crescent Rd. but was holding down powerlines underneath it.
RCMP and fire were on scene directing traffic and trying to restore power.
The windmill at Island Park was also destroyed as over 100 homes lost power in Portage for more than four hours, according to a spokesman from Manitoba Hydro.
