Portagers acknowledge importance of Mother's Day 0
Mother's Day in Portage is coming up this Sunday as people celebrate the gift of life while honouring the women who have made the greatest impact in your life.
Businesses in Portage have a lot to offer for people looking for gifts, but for people in Portage it's more about paying homage to the most important person.
"Mother's are very special and they are important. They should be recognized on Mother's Day and even every day. My mom is very special. She did everything for us. I appreciate everything she taught us -- and if it wasn't for her, we wouldn't be here today," said Margaret Schapansky.
From making your lunches to getting you ready for school in the morning and stressing the purpose of education, mothers are important and should be cared for and reminded of their worth on a daily basis, said Wil Pacholuk.
"They are number one. You can't do much without them. No matter how much they drive you crazy you just have to remember how much you love them and treat them the way they should be treated. I can't imagine my time without 'em," he said.
For some, like Philip Dunn, your mother may live in another province in Canada but that doesn't mean you can't do anything special.
Dunn said that because his mother lives in Calgary, he usually gives her a call and sends some flowers.
"It's one of those (special) days you don't want to miss," he said.
Ken Keith from Portage la Prairie also weighed in on his thoughts for the importance of
Mother's Day.
"Mother's Day is very special. Mothers are the people who are there for you unconditionally and help you navigate through life, so it's important to tell them that you really care and appreciate it," said Keith.
