A pair of locals shone at the Blue and Gold Classic on Saturday as their Team West dominated Team East to the tune of 27-7.

Jordan Aymont of the Portage Pitbulls and Connor Jowett of the Portage Collegiate Institute Trojans were among the victors in the game, held as East Side Eagles Field in Winnipeg.

The game was used to help select players for the U18 High Performance Program. The process began in February with regional identification camps. Approximately 60 players will be invited to the final selection camp will take place on June 2 and 3, while the final team of 40 players will compete at the Football Canada Cup in Hamilton from July 14-21.

Aymont was thrilled to be selected to participate.

"It means a lot to me. I take a lot of pride in my football and how far I can get with it," said Aymont. "It definitely means a lot to me that I can impress the coaches enough to make it that far."

Aymont enjoyed being a part of the team while competing for a spot on the final roster.

"It was a great time," said Aymont. "It was a great experience, once again, to be with all the vets that were there. It was nice to play on the line with them again.

"It was definitely a great experience."
