Students from Yellowquill School will be competing in a US music festival next week held in Minneapolis where they hope to bring home a trophy.

The 20-piece Yellowquill School jazz band will compete in the Music in the Parks Festival May 10-13.

"It takes place in a high school just outside Minneapolis. It's a competition so they go down there and they compete against other groups their age. There's groups that are from all over the United States and Canada that go down there to compete," said band teacher Cory Dressler who will be taking the kids on the field trip.

He notes the band has been working very hard over the last few days and they are very excited to go on the trip.

"Last year we were pretty successful we came back with a trophy and I hope we can do it again this year. We have a really good group going down of about 20 students," said Dressler.

This trip has been something that students have been fundraising for since September.
