St. Claude pair helps Westman to gold 0

Herald-Leader Staff

St. Claude volleyball players Breanne Rey and Melanie Gosseye are making waves in their first year playing in the Brandon program.

The pair looked westward when the Prairie Fire program decided to narrow its focus to players from the Portage la Prairie region.

Playing for the 17U team, the duo helped earn gold over the

St. Mary's Blue Fire last weekend in a thrilling three-set match that was eventually won by Westman 16-14 in the final set.

The Prairie Fire, whom Westman defeated in the semifinal, ended up in fourth after falling to Vision in the third-place game.

Both teams will be in action at the provincial tournament in Brandon on Saturday and Sunday.

Relatedly, the 15-year-old Gosseye will tryout for a position on the 16U Team Manitoba next month.
