Trojans swept by Aces 0
After a powerful offence lifted the Portage Collegiate Institute Trojans to five of a possible eight points in their first four games of the Zone 4 season, the bats came to a hush on Wednesday.
PCI (2-3-1) crossed the plate just twice in a doubleheader against the W.C. Miller Aces, losing the first game 6-0 and the second game 4-2.
Johl Swedlo pitched a complete game in the opener, while Jason Kirkland pitched four innings of Game 2, with Patrick Beaudette closing things out.
While PCI couldn't muster much at the plate in the first game, and while they opened the second one strong, couldn't keep it up.
"The first inning of the second game, we had a good inning," said head coach Jay Dewis. "We got out of the gates and we had a good inning. We had guys on base early, and moved them around, but after that our bats kind of went quiet."
Dewis said the Aces weren't overpowering, but the Trojans just couldn't seem to get on base often enough.
"I don't think any of their guys were overly dominant, we just, for some reason, weren't able to find the holes today," said Dewis. "We'll look to improve that on Monday."
