By Robin Dudgeon...The road to the Spillway Bridge is closed as work continues on the Spillway Bridge and the Yellowquill Trail Diversion Bridge, Monday. Work is scheduled to run from May until late summer as Ellwood McRorie Ltd. of Portage will be making safety upgrades to the bridges.
Traffic on Yellowquill Trail will be disrupted over the summer as construction continues to the Spillway Bridge and the Yellowquill Trail Diversion Bridge.
Ellwood McRorie Ltd. of Portage la Prairie recently started to make safety upgrades to the bridges including installation of new traffic guardrail and concrete barriers, access platforms, handrail and gates and fencing.
Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation (MIT) expects the repairs to continue into late summer, during which time the single lane Assiniboine River control structure will be closed to all traffic and the Diversion Inlet structure on Yellowquill Trail will be down to single lane traffic.
As the river control structure is used frequently by local residents, MIT says the contractor is focusing on work at that site in order to open it up to traffic as soon as possible.
