The Portage Blaze are set for the Winnipeg Women's Soccer League season after an undefeated exhibition schedule.

The Blaze completed the preseason with a 2-0 record after edging the SE Shooters 2-1 at John Blumberg Park on Monday.

Early in the game, the Blaze stood tall defensively as Katie Ward made numerous stops and Emily Wright negated a close call by clearing a ball off the goal line in the first half.

Rookie tryout Janelle Wojtowicz opened the scoring in the second half when an attempted cross bounced back in her direction and she buried the ball.

The Shooters tied the game with 12 minutes to go, as Jamie Routledge, who played in net for the second half, attempted to clear the ball, but it bounced off an offside forward and into the net.

However, the unfortunate result didn't stop the Blaze from gunning for the win as Danika Baker kicked home a Sarah Mansell rebound for the game winner.

The team's home opener will take place Sunday against the Hanover Hype at 5:30 p.m.
