MacGregor teen to participate in beauty contest
Submitted photo... Rilee Lloyd, 18, will travel to Toronto in July to compete in a beauty pageant.
On July 22-24, MacGregor's Rilee Lloyd will represent the Central Plains in the Miss Teen Canada World Pageant in Toronto.
Lloyd won the honour after earning her spot on Sunday by edging out three other girls to take the top prize.
"It was really exciting," said Lloyd as she prepares for the national competition. "I'm nervous but I think it will be a lot of fun. There are 74 girls in that pageant. I just want to keep developing my platform and use my title to make a difference."
In order to travel to Toronto, Lloyd must fundraise $3000 in two months so she said she's looking for sponsors to support her efforts.
In addition to that, Lloyd is working on her interview skills, walk and portraiture to get ready for the contest.
Usually, the stereotypical aspect of beauty pageant demand the ladies to discuss a topic that's important to them, for example world peace. However, Lloyd has decided to discuss the topic of bullying, something that she knows all too well.
"I was bullied in elementary school and I had to change schools. It made me have low self-confidence and self worth," said Lloyd.
"It stuck with me for a number of years but I had a great family and good friends who helped me through that. I didn't want anyone to go through the same thing so if I could impact one person's life through this, it would really make me happy."
