Terriers force ANAVET Game 7 0

By Dan Falloon, Portage Daily Graphic

The Portage Terriers and Humboldt Broncos are making the final ANAVET Cup series one for the ages.

The Terriers won their third game in a row Saturday night, forcing a seventh and deciding game against the Broncos. Shaq Merasty tallied his second of the game 3:43 into the third overtime to lift the Terriers.

Adam Iwan made 46 saves in the win, while Matt Hrynkiw turned aside 31 for Humboldt.

Robbie Ciolfi had opened the scoring for Humboldt midway through the first, but Brendan Harms replied on the powerplay shortly after to even the contest.

Merasty gave Portage the lead with a shorthanded marker in the second, and Brent Wold tacked on another just over three minutes later to put the Terriers ahead 3-1.

But Josh Roach scored with seconds left in the frame to bring Humboldt within one, and Kameron Ballas brought the Broncos even early in the third.

Andrew Wiebe and Andrew Johnston traded goals later on in the period to set up overtime.

Game 7 is set for Sunday night at Humbodlt's Elgar Peterson Arena.
