City Manager Dale Lyle said that the city and the Portage Fire Department are in discussion for a new fire contact after the old one expired at the end of the last year.

Negotiations have been underway for the last three months as the City and the Fire Department try to come to a new three-year agreement.

Lyle said there is no timeline for the closure of discussions and added that a significant period of time could ensue before a deal is struck.

The Portage Fire Department currently have 36 firefighters on staff - 16 full-time and 20 part-time.
