Province opts to protect Manitobans from unfair car bills

By Jordan Maxwell, Portage Daily Graphic

Manitobans will now be protected from hidden charges and fraudulent car repair practices, the premier announced today.

Healthy Living, Seniors and Consumer Affairs Minister Jim Rondeau said that the increased sophistication of cars make it hard for consumers to understand what's exactly involved with repairs.

"Our plan will take what many businesses do already as good business practices and make them the stand, helping to ensure that Manitobans know what will be done and how much it will cost to repair their vehicle," said Greg Selinger.

The new rules will apply to cars, trucks, and motorcycles but not for repairs as part of a claim through Manitoba Public Insurance.
