Sullivan up for award

Local golfer Myles Sullivan will look to add some hardware to his shelf on Monday.

Sullivan was announced as one of the Sport Manitoba nominees for the Manitoba Junior Chicken Producers Junior Male Athlete of the Year Award on Wednesday. The award will be presented in Winnipeg at the 2012 Night of Champions in Winnipeg.

Sullivan will be up against Oakbank's Quinton Howden (hockey), Brandon's Kurtis Cullen (racquetball), Winnipeg's Mitch Hupe (tenpin bowling), Winnipeg's Jesse Leyte (five-pin bowling), Oak Bluff's Tyler Mislawchuk (triathlon), Rosenfeld's Angus Klassen (baseball), Winnipeg's Remi Laurencelle (ball hockey), and Winnipeg's Chris Prendergast (cycling).

Sullivan was the lone nominee from the Central Plains. In all seven awards will be handed out.

"Sport Manitoba takes pride in recognizing the achievements of Manitobans in amateur sport," said Sport Manitoba President & CEO Jeff Hnatiuk in a release. "Our athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers have distinguished themselves in the sport community, not only in our province but across the country and throughout the world."
