The Portage Regional Recreation Authority and the Portage Salvation Army are teaming up for a project called "Put a Tin in the Bin to Win!'

For Game 3 and 4 of the ANAVET Cup series, the PRRA is asking that people attending the game bring non-perishable food that will be collected and given to the Salvation Army.

Lieut. Jeff Arkell said that the initiative goes a long way in helping the Salvation Army boost their shelves ahead of the summer months, which can be a difficult time of year for the organization.

"The stock isn't looking to bad but we're heading into the summer months. During the summer months, we get really low. If everyone brings something to do the same, it will really help us out in the summer months and give us a boost," said Arkell.

Both organizations will hope to take advantage of what's expected to be a full house at the PCU Centre for the Portage Terriers games against the Humboldt Broncos on Tues. Apr. 24 and Wed. Apr. 25.

The Terriers are currently down 0-2 in the series but if they manage to win at least one of their next two games, the project will extend to Game 5 at the PCU Centre on Apr. 26.

"We really appreciate when organizations like this take the time to do fundraising and food collection for the Salvation Army. I think it shows that Portage is a great community and the residents look out for others who are less fortunate," said Arkell.
