Ladies night successful 0

By Jordan Maxwell, Portage Daily Graphic

Over a hundred women showed up to the Portage Potato Festival's fundraiser at the Herman Prior Centre.

The event, which held a Mexican theme, brought the talents of Nicola, a belly dancer from Winnipeg, as well as Shea Fust, who served as a guest speaker.

Fust encouraged the ladies to live their best lives and not to be afraid of taking chances or believing in yourself. She used herself as an example, saying she was unhappy with her body etc.. before taking up a modest bodybuilding career.

She also discussed the success her boot camp for Central Plains women has had. In total, Fust has been able to help women lose 5000 inches combined and nearly 3000 pounds.

The numbers drew some oohs and ahhs as many boot camp participants were in the crowd to support the event, which raised funds towards the Portage Potato Festival.

Nicola, a belly dancer from WInnipeg, kicked off the evening entertainment as many of the women stayed and danced for the remainder of the evening.

Organizers said that attendees were down from last year, but general sales were up. They also praised the community for stepping up to support the fundraiser.
