Many level-two dancers from the school's centre in Winnipeg performed during the festivities.

The event included an art display, traditional drumming by North Wolf Ojibway, as well as bannock and other treats for guests to enjoy. A live auction was also planned for the celebration.

Dakota Brant, owner of Sacred Buffalo, a retail and auction store in Portage, also performed in traditional regalia, and displayed a number of crafts and art pieces from his establishment.

The Aboriginal School of Dance opening event also included a demonstration of various styles of dancing, including powwow, contemporary dance and hip hop.

The owner of the Aboriginal School of Dance, Buffy Handel was in attendance to make a presentation and said she was pleased to be opening the new school in central Portage la Prairie.
