A Carman Collegiate teacher was recently recognized by the Minister of Education as part of the annual Excellence in Teaching Awards held in Winnipeg.

Rosanne Massinon, a grade 10 science teacher at Carman Collegiate who hails from St. Claude, was recognized with the Outstanding New Teacher Award for her enthusiasm, commitment, and dedication to her subject matter.

Since arriving at the school three years ago she has helped to introduce the school to the provincial Envirothon competition, developed an Agro-ecology Discovery Day for grade 10 students, and helped increase student awareness of agricultural opportunities and the importance of sustainability and agro-ecology.

Recipients of the awards were recognized on Apr. 17 at the Legislature by Education minister Nancy Allan. Six awards were presented in four different categories: teaching excellence, outstanding new teacher, team collaboration, and outstanding school leader.

Each recipient received a certificate of recognition and a $500 cash award. The recipients' schools also received $500 for projects or equipment.
