By Robin Dudgeon...Lori Blight, arts promotion coordinator for the Portage & District Arts Centre (PDAC), informed Rotarians at Tuesday's meeting about what PDAC does and stressed the need for volunteers for upcoming events such as the Celebration of the Arts in May.

The Portage la Prairie Rotary Club heard from Lori Blight and Jean Armstrong of the Portage & District Arts Centre (PDAC) at Thursday's meeting.

Rotarians learned about what type of programs PDAC offers ranging from camps to art classes to a wide range of dance classes. They also heard about some of the major events coming up, including the 25th annual Celebration of the Arts - which is it's major fundraiser of the year.

What makes these programs and these events a success is volunteers - something that PDAC is always in need of.

"We probably have over 50 volunteers that help us out with various events and activities at the Arts Centre," said PDAC arts promotion coordinator Lori Blight. "We always need more especially around our dance program - we really like to get more parents involved with our dance recital to help supervise and keep everything on track. The more people we have the better things run."

If anyone is interested in becoming a volunteer or getting involved with the PDAC board of directors they can call executive director Jean Armstrong at 239-6029.
