Plane clips tower near Macdonald

Daily Graphic Staff

An aerial spray plane clipped the top of a tower at the edge of a field north of Macdonald on June 28.

Although the incident happened at noon on a clear day, the tower wasn't visible to the pilot, said John Bodie, the plane's owner.

The 200-foot-high tower was put up to observe wind patterns for a potential wind farm in the Macdonald area.

"They're not painted. They're not marked, they don't have strobes or lights on them," he said.

Bodie owns Jonair, an aerial spraying company that had a contract to spray a field close to the tower.

The pilot clipped the top of the tower as he was making passes around the area in preparing to spray a nearby field, said Bodie.
